Davis Named Titans' First Pre-Season All-American of 2006
Dec. 14, 2005
Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton shortstop Blake Davis was tabbed a third-team Pre-season All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America (NCBWA) on Wednesday afternoon, becoming the first Titan of the year to receive such recognition.
Davis (Junior, Fountain Valley, Calif. ) hit .325 for the Titans last season, hitting two home runs and driving in 36 RBI. The speedster also knocked eight triples and swiped 17 bags en route to a first-team All-Big West Conference selection.
Drafted in the 46th round by the Cleveland Indians last season, the swift-fielding infielder returns to the Titans for his third season in pinstripes after becoming the Titans' 15th US National Team member this past summer. Davis hit .275 for the Red, White and Blue, playing in all 20 games, collecting 14 hits including a pair of triples.
Davis and teammates Brett Pill and Wes Roemer were recently named to the 2006 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, nominating them for the award given by the College Baseball Foundation for the best player in college baseball.
The NCBWA will present their version of the player of the year award, the Dick Howser Trophy, for the 20th time in 2006. Nominations and watch lists for the Howser Award will be released in the spring.
