Hit Batter Wins "Championship Series" for Blue

Nov. 15, 2009

Fullerton, Calif. - A big come-from-behind pair of victories Saturday afternoon propelled Cal State Fullerton baseball Assistant Coach Sergio Brown's Orange squad to an intersquad "Championship Series" victory over Assistant Coach Greg Wallis' Blue Team at Goodwin Field.

Two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning not only gave Blue a 2-1 win in the Saturday scrimmage, but it earned them the tie-breaking runs that gave them credit for the victory in Friday afternoon's tie ballgame.

With the series finale tied at 1-1, reliever Kevin Rath surrendered a hit, a walk and a hit batter to load the bases for Orange. The southpaw then promptly hit batter Tony Harkey to drive home what turned out to be the winning run for two games.

Both Noe Ramirez (Orange) and Colin O'Connell (Blue) pitched three scoreless innings each in the Fall's final official workout of the year.

With the win, Coach Brown's squad will be rewarded with a Thanksgiving meal served to them by Coach Wallis' crew at the team's Nov. 19 holiday function. Coach Wallis' crew will also be required to spread Christmas cheer by singing carols in and around the Cal State Fullerton campus.
