Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton's 56-game, 2007 baseball scheduled has been finalized and released by the Titans and will feature non-conference series with traditional college baseball powerhouses Stanford, Arizona, Rice and Wichita State.
Fullerton will open the campaign with an annual three-game-series with the Cardinal, this year at Goodwin Field, Feb. 2-4. This series will be the first of four Pac-10 squads (Stanford, Arizona, UCLA, and USC) on the Titans' plate.
Goodwin Field will be the site of 27 Titan baseball games highlighted by a series with fellow 2006 College World Series participants, Rice, as they will be making the trek to Fullerton for the First time since 1990. This time the Owls will get its first glimpse at Goodwin Field Mar. 2-4, having never played in the 3,500-seat ballpark. Last time they were in Fullerton, they competed down the street at Amerige Park, the 350-seat home of the Titans in 1990.
The Titans will also play non-conference host to Arizona (Feb. 16-18), UCLA (Feb. 23), San Diego State (Feb. 27), Pepperdine (Mar. 13), San Diego (Mar. 14), and USC (Apr. 10).
On the road, The Titans will make two unusual stops this season, one at Eck Stadium to play Wichita State (May 11-13) and the other at Clark-LeClair Stadium to face East Carolina (Mar. 9-11). The Titans last visited Wichita in 2002 in a non-conference series with the Shockers. Fullerton will don their road grays in East Carolina and play in the new 11-million dollar home of the Pirates for the very first time.
The Titans will make a run for their fourth-consecutive Big West Conference championship in `07 starting their 21-game league schedule on the road, Mar. 30 against Cal State Northridge. In addition, Fullerton will visit UC Riverside (Apr. 27-29) and Cal Poly (May 18-20). At home the Titans will lead off with Dave Serrano's budding UC Irvine squad (Apr. 5-7) then host Pacific (Apr. 20-22), UC Santa Barbara (May 4-6) and then the cross-town rival Long Beach State (May 25-27) to wrap up conference play and the regular season.
In addition to the regular season match-up, Fullerton fans can look forward to an additional non-conference three-game series with the 49ers at Blair Filed on Mar. 23-25. Last season, The Titans swept all six games from Long Beach, and have won nine of the last 12 meetings.
Seven of the Titans' 2007 opponents (Stanford, UCLA, Rice, San Diego, Pepperdine and Wichita State) qualified for Regional play in 2006 with Rice and Stanford at least advancing to the Super Regionals.
Head Coach George Horton is entering his 11th season at the helm of the Cal State Fullerton baseball program and will be flanked by long-time assistant Rick Vanderhook (21st season), Recruiting Coordinator Jason Gill (3rd season) and first-year Volunteer Assistant Coach Bill Kernen. The Titans were 50-15 over all in 2006 finishing tied for third in the nation after a 2-2 performance in Omaha, Neb. In Big West play, Cal State Fullerton blew away the competition with an 18-3 league mark and the school's 22nd conference championship.
