Titans' 2008 Recruiting Class Ranked 6th in the Nation

Sept. 25, 2007

Tucson, Arizona - Collegiate Baseball has ranked Cal State Fullerton's incoming recruiting class the sixth-best in the nation among all NCAA Div. I teams, finishing in the Tucson-based publication's "top ten" for the second consecutive year.

"It's no surprise to me that this incoming class has been recognized. The previous coaching staff has put together a group of fine young student-athletes and the new staff will reap the benefits in the years to come," Titan Head Coach Dave Serrano said.

This year's class has arguably the best incoming talent the Titans have seen since 2003 when players like Justin Turner, Danny Dorn, Blake Davis, John Curtis, Ricky Romero, Sergio Pedroza, Brett Pill, Ronnie Prettyman, and Jason Windsor were all new to the Fullerton program and recruited by Serrano in his first tour of duty as the recruiting coordinator.

Freshmen Christian Colon (Infield, Canyon High School) and Gary Brown (Infield/Outfield, Diamond Bar High School) headline this year's class as both turned down professional contracts out of high school to join the Titans. Colon was a 10th round draft pick for the San Diego Padres, while Brown was taken in the 12th by the Oakland A's.

The Titans have 17 total new players joining the program this season that include nine JC transfers, one Division I transfer, and seven true freshmen. Six of the incoming players are pitchers, three lefties and three righties.

Since 1983, Fullerton has finished in the Top Ten in Collegiate Baseball's ranking 10 times, with the highest being Serrano's 2000 class coming in as the No. 1 in the nation.
