FULLERTON, CA -
Georgia Southern Head Coach Rodney Hernon
About why he thought they lost...
"We just, bottom line, didn't make pitches and didn't make plays. They were very opportunistic."
About going down by seven runs early...
"You want to set the tone early. Today, Chris just had one of those days. He's a competitor and he didn't have it today."
About the rest of the tournament...
"We got to pick ourselves up and hang around until Sunday."
"We've been down before and battled back, we did it today but it didn't work out in the end."
On starting the 6 run rally in the third...
"Just trying to get on base is important, I got lucky and it worked out."
"It was tough to see seven on the board but we battled back and got right back in it."
Coach Mark Machtolf: "It's important to stay out of the losers' bracket as long as you can. To win the first one is big."
"Reedy did a great job to hold down a great offensive team."
Pitcher Reedy Berg: "I had a lot of confidence in our offense. I was just trying to hold them down."
Ryan Wiegand: "I don't think we had a 7-run inning all season. To jump out like that in this game was great. You get a little lackadaisical with a big lead."
