Pill Named Howser Award Semifinalist

May 20, 2011

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton junior Tyler Pill was named a Dick Howser Award semifinalist by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Friday morning.

The Howser Award, in its 25th year, goes to the top player in college baseball and will be presented to the winner on June 21, 2011, at TD Ameritrade Park prior to the fourth day of competition at the College World Series.

Pill, a two-way player for the Titans, has a 5-1 record with a 2.29 ERA in 82.2 innings over 13 starts for the Titans and is leading the Big West Conference with 91 strikeouts. At the plate, the Covina native is hitting .321 with nine doubles and 22 RBI as an outfielder and designated hitter.

Pill is the only Big West player on the list of 36 released by the NCBWA, and he, UCLA's Trevor Bauer and Utah's Trevor Cron are the only representatives of schools west of the state of Texas.

The NCBWA works in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the College Baseball Foundation on the award voting. The Dick Howser Award is presented by Easton Foundations.
