Bill Kernen Hired as Head Coach at Bakersfield

Bakersfield, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton Volunteer Assistant Coach Bill Kernen today was hired as head coach at Cal State Bakersfield, which will field its first team in the Spring of 2009.

Kernen will finish out the season with the Titans, where he assists Pitching Coach Rick Vanderhook. Kernen was an assistant with the Titans from 1978 thru 1982 and again in 1987 and was head coach at Cal State Northridge from 1989 thru 1995. He then left coaching to become a playwright.

"I am happy to be a part of the Cal State Bakersfield family and the community at large because we are about to show the rest of the country what this city and university can accomplish when the dedicated commitment of quality people is applied to such a challenge," said Kernen.
