Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton redshirt sophomore outfielder/designated hitter Carlos Lopez earned Capital One Academic All-District Second Team honors for his performance in the classroom as well as on the field as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on May 6.
Lopez, a communications major, has maintained a cumulative 3.32 GPA while participating with the Titans' nationally prominent baseball team for the past three seasons.
Through May 8, the Northridge native is hitting .352 - good for fourth in the Big West Conference - with two home runs and 29 runs batted in, and has struck out just nine times in 125 at bats. His performance on the field has helped the Titans remain atop the Big West Standings with three weekends left in the regular season.
To be eligible, student-atheltes must have a 3.30 GPA while having participated in over 50 percent of his team's games.
Lopez is one of four Big West players on a first or second team in District 8. He joins UC Irvine's D.J. Crumlich, UC Davis' Eric Johnson and Long Beach State's Brennan Metzger on the annual list.
Lopez was Cal State Fullerton's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2010.
