Austin, Texas - The Cal State Fullerton baseball was ranked No. 4 in the nation by Kendall Rogers at Rivals.com today as he continues to counts down his preseason Top 25 in 25 days.
The No. 4 ranking by Rivals.com, is the highest preseason mark by any poll. The Titans have found themselves in the No. 5 spot by Baseball America, No. 8 by USA Today/ESPN Coaches, No. 10 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association and No. 13 by Collegiate Baseball.
The Titans started No. 16 in the nation on the Rivals.com poll in 2008, and finished the season as its No. 10 team in the country with a 41-22 overall record and Big West and Regional championships to their credit.
Also the top pick to win the Big West Conference by the league's coaches, second-year Head Coach Dave Serrano and the Titans will defend their 2008 Co-Big West championship with a line-up stacked with returing players. Team USA participants Josh Fellhauer (Jr., CF, Rancho Cucamonga, Clif.), Christian Colon (So., SS, Corona, Calif.) and Jared Clark (Sr., 1B, Castaic, Calif.) as well as experienced position players in Dustin Garneau (Sr., C, San Pedro, Calif.) and Joe Scott (Sr., 2B, Corona, Calif.) with headline a lineup that will feature four seniors, two juniors and a pair of sophomores to begin the 2009 campaign. Sophomore right-hander Daniel Renken is the Titans' lone returning starting pitcher.
The Titans begin their quest for the 2009 national title early Sunday morning (Feb.1) with a midnight workout at Goodwin Field. The Titans are looking to be the first in the nation to practice and the last to play in the College World Series. Practice will begin just after midnight and will run until approximately 4:00 a.m. and will include a 7-8 inning scrimmage.
