Titans to Begin 2010 as Baseball America's No. 4 Team

Jan. 27, 2010

Durham, North Carolina - Cal State Fullerton baseball will begin the season as the No. 4 team in the country according to Baseball America which released its annual preseason Top 25 poll Wednesday morning.

All eight of last years College World Series teams, including Southern Miss (in the poll for just the second time ever and first since 2001), start in the Top 25 with Texas leading the way at No. 1. The Longhorns have now topped Baseball America's preseason poll for a record sixth time in the poll's 30-year history.

Behind Texas is Virginia, defending national champion LSU, Fullerton and Rice to round out the top 5.

The Titans will play five teams on the Baseball America's preseason list (UC Irvine - 8, TCU - 11, Arizona State - 14, San Diego - 19 and UCLA -23) which will account for 13 of their 56 games. Seven of those games will be played at Goodwin Field.

The Titans were 47-16 a season ago, sweeping through both the Fullerton Regionals and Super Regionals before an 0-2 showing in Omaha. Fullerton enters the season with a plethora of talent (six preseason All-Americans and a nationally-ranked No. 5 recruiting class) and look to make a run at the school's fifth national title.

The Titans are led by third-year Head Coach Dave Serrano and his staff of assistants, Sergio Brown, Greg Bergeron and Gregg Wallis.

The Titans open up the 2010 season at Goodwin Field with Oregon on Feb. 19 when former TItan player and Head Coach George Horton will return to his old stomping grounds for the first time sitting in the visitor's dugout.
