Box Score

Davis, Calif. - Nick Mahin was 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead No. 18 Cal State Fullerton (21-12) to a 9-2 non-conference baseball victory over UC Davis (12-19) Friday afternoon at the Dobbins Baseball Complex.

Wes Roemer (5-4) was the beneficiary of an 8-0 Titan lead through the first five and a half innings, earning his fifth win of the year and second in his last three outings. The junior right hander finished by tossing eight innings, surrendering seven hits and collecting five strikeouts.

Roemer started the game retiring 16 of the first 18 hitters he faced before running into a bit of a rough patch in the bottom of the sixth. The Titan ace gave up four hits in the Aggies sixth, with a double by Daniel Descalso and a single by Aaron Hanke driving in the only two Aggie runs on the day.

The Titans jumped all over starter Trevor Fox (3-5) scoring seven times over the lefties five innings of work. Mahin tallied both his hits off the southpaw, driving in runs with a double to the right field gap in the third and a sacrifice fly in the Titan fifth.

After plating two runs in the second and two runs in the third, Fullerton scored three runs on just one hit in the fifth, utilizing three Fox hit batters, the lefty's second run-scoring balk of the game, a Khris Davis double and a fielding error by left-fielder Kyle Mihaylo.

The Titans added to their lead in the sixth inning off reliever Paul Gonzalez. Gonzalez walked Clark Hardman to lead off the inning. Josh Fellhauer then hit into a would-be 4-6-3 double play, but was awarded first base on a catcher's interference call. Davis then lined a shot into left-center field to increase the Titan lead to 8-0.

Joe Scott walked, was sacrificed to second by Clark Hardman, and stole third in the eighth inning setting up Fellhauer's final at bat. The left fielder gave the Titans their ninth run of the day with a ground ball to short, allowing Scott to trot home with the final run.

Mahin, Daivs, Fellhauer and Matt Wallach each collected two hits on the afternoon to lead the Titans with Mahin's two RBI leading all players. Daniel Descalso had three hits for UC Davis.

Both teams will meet at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon for the second game of the three-game series. Jeff Kaplan will be on the mound for Fullerton looking for his sixth win of the season.
