FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton received its second preseason ranking on Tuesday, rating at No. 23 according to the Perfect Game Preseason College Top 25 poll.
This is the second preseason top-25 ranking for the Titans, who were ranked at No. 23 by Collegiate Baseball in December.
The Titans return to Goodwin Field on Friday for the first practice of the 2013 season.
In 2012, CSF finished the year with a 36-21 record, won its 26th conference title, and made its 34th postseason appearance. The Titans finished the year ranked 21st in the final Baseball America Top 25 poll.
Cal State Fullerton boasts 22 returning players from the 2012 squad, including seven position starters.
The Titans return a very experienced squad from the 2012 season, including All-American Michael Lorenzen and Big West Freshman of the Year, Matt Chapman. In addition, all-conference first team 2012 selections Richy Pedroza and Carlos Lopez are expected to return to the Titan lineup along with second team pick Anthony Hutting.
Cal State Fullerton assembled a challenging schedule for the 2013 season. The schedule features 26 home games at Goodwin Field and 20 different opponents, including seven programs that advanced to last season's NCAA Division I Baseball tournament, and four teams that are ranked in the Perfect Game Preseason College Top 25 poll (No. 6 UCLA, No. 10 Oregon, No. 14 TCU, No. 18 San Diego.)
In addition, Titan fans will get the opportunity to watch Cal State Fullerton's freshman class, which was ranked the No. 23 recruiting class in the nation, according to Baseball America's annual evaluation.
Highlights of the schedule include Goodwin Field hosting series against 2012 postseason participants, Oregon (Mar. 1-3) and Texas A&M (Mar. 8-10). Nebraska will also travel to Fullerton twice, for a doubleheader on Feb. 16 and back-to-back contests on March 19-20.
Season ticket packages and single-game tickets are currently on sale for the 2013 campaign.
