Was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 10th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
AS A SENIOR (2013)
Became the first student-athlete at Cal State Fullerton to be named the Senior CLASS Award winner…the Titans’ starting first baseman, he was named the 2013 Big West Conference Co-Player of the Year…also received an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award and was named to the ABCA/Rawlings West Region second team…was named the Big West Co-Player of the Week and was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” after the Titans clinched their fourth consecutive Big West championship by completing a weekend series sweep of UC Irvine. Lopez played a massive role in the sweep that finalized Fullerton’s 27th conference championship and the Big West's automatic NCAA Tournament berth. He was responsible for the game-winning RBI in all three games, including back-to-back walk-off home runs on Saturday (05/18) and Sunday (05/19)….ended his career at Cal State Fullerton with a Big West championship and Fullerton Regional Championship before being drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 10th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft…led Cal State Fullerton in several offensive categories in 2013 including; batting average (.339), runs scored (52), hits (80), and stolen bases (15)… totaled 11 doubles, three triples and four home runs while driving in 34 runs…during his career, managed a .338 batting average and played in 226 career games, which ranks eighth all-time at Fullerton…287 career hits rate fourth all-time at Fullerton, while his 53 doubles rank 10th…totaled 145 runs scored, 10 triples, 14 home runs, 142 RBIs, 95 walks and 35 stolen bases…849 career at-bats rank fourth all-time at Fullerton…in 2013 in Big West games batted .380 with 29 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple, three home runs and 20 RBIs with a .556 slugging percentage and .433 on-base percentage…finished the season with a .995 fielding percentage…batted a team-leading .356 (26-for-73) with runners in scoring position…finished second on the team with 17 two-out RBIs…led Fullerton with 24 multiple-hit games…11 game-hitting streak was the second longest for any Titan in 2013…drove in the game-winning run on five occasions: a one-run sacrifice fly in the third at CSU Bakersfield (02/18) and a two-run single at UCLA in the sixth (04/02).
Was named to the 2012 West Coast League second team after batting .313 with 51 hits, 24 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple and 22 RBIs for the Klamath Falls Gems.
AS A JUNIOR (2012)
Carlos Lopez was the Titans’ most consistent hitter • First-team All-Big West Conference selection who started all 57 games (56 at first base, 1 as designated hitter) • Finished up with a .317 batting average, second best on the team to Richy Pedroza’s .324 mark • Led team in walks with 31, in multiple-hit games with 22 and shared lead in hits with 69 • Also in top three on squad with 32 runs, 35 RBIs, 18 doubles, 90 total bases, .413 slugging percentage and seven stolen bases • Consistent? He batted .338 vs. LHP and .305 vs. RHP; batted .321 with runners on and .311 with bases empty • Had consecutive hitless games only four times • Best hitting streak of season was an 11-gamer (March 16-31, 21-for-45, .467) • With runner at third and less than two outs he pushed the runner home in 15 of 20 opportunities (.750) • With bases loaded he batted .455 (5-for-11) • Carlos led the Titans in batting average in Big West games at .344 with nine doubles and 21 RBIs • On the season, made only five errors and fielded at a .991 clip on team-best 575 chances • Delivered a 10th-inning walk-off double to beat Cal Poly on Apr. 22, 5-4 • Repeated as Cal State Fullerton’s Male Scholar Athlete for 2011.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2011)
Held team’s highest batting average most of the season, but was edged out by less than a point by Michael Lorenzen, .3425 to .3417 • Lowest mark was .302 as of Apr. 2 • Earned berth on All-Regional Tournament team (.400, 4-for-10) • Appeared in 47 games, 45 as a starter - 11 in left field, 17 in right field and 17 at DH • Second on team with 34 RBIs and led team with 10 multi-RBI games • Had five RBI - all in a nine-run fourth inning -- vs. Pepperdine on Apr. 5, with a three-run homer and a two-run single • Had a season-best nine-game hitting streak (Apr. 22 thru May 8: .444, 16-for-36) • Batted 4-for-5 with two triples at USD on Apr. 26 • Had four games with three hits • Earned Capital One Academic All-Distict honors awarded by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) • Was named Cal State Fullerton’s Male Scholar Athlete for 2010.
AS A FRESHMAN (2010)
Was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA (second team) • Played in 62 of the Titans’ 64 games, working primarily as the team’s designated hitter; did play outfield for most of May while Tyler Pill was forced into DH duties • Made his collegiate debut on Feb. 19 vs. Oregon; went hitless in two official at bats, but walked twice and scored a run • Picked up his first career hit on Feb. 20 vs. Pepperdine • Logged his first career RBIs on Mar. 2 vs. San Diego with a run-scoring single and double • Belted his first career home run on Mar. 5 at Arizona • Had 25 multi-hit games, 16 with two hits, six with three hits and three with a season-high four hits (Mar. 20 at Washington, Apr. 17 at UC Santa Barbara and May 9 vs. UC Riverside) • Had 13 multi-RBI games, eight with 2 RBIs, three with three RBIs, one with four RBIs and one with a season-high six RBIs • On May 23 vs. Santa Clara, drove home a season-high 6 runs on an RBI-single, a two-run single, and a three-run home run • Biggest hit of the season was a 9th inning grand slam just inside the right field foul pole on Apr. 27 at San Diego; the slam not only helped the Titans win 13-10, but capped the team’s biggest comeback of the season (6 runs) • Had the 10th longest hitting streak in school history with a 17-gamer that lasted from Mar. 2 to Mar 28; During the streak he hit .456 (31-for-68) and drove in 12 runs • Hit safely in the final three games of the Fullerton Regional to earn a spot on the all-tournament team • Ranked in the Big West Conference Top 10s in the following categories: hits (5th, 84), RBI (8th, 51), total bases (9th, 127), and at bats (t-3rd, 238) • Was named to the All-Big West Second Team as a DH • Named to the ABCA All-West Region Second Team • By age eligibility as a redshirt-freshman, was drafted in the 37th round (1123rd overall) by the Detroit Tigers in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft • Was named Cal State Fullerton’s Male Scholar Athlete in 2010.
AS A REDSHIRT (2009)
Was granted a redshirt season as he recovered from knee surgery performed in the fall of 2008.
Was a four-year varsity player at Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, Calif., for Head Coach Scott Muckie • Was named to the Mission League’s second team as a rookie before earning first-team all-league honors his final three seasons • Never hit lower than .350 and was named a Div. III all-state player in 2007 after hitting .390 • Performed well in the classroom earning the President’s Education Award, Outstanding Scholar and Academic Excellence Awards and was a member of the Honor Society.
