TITANS ’12: Nick Hurtado sat out the season while continuing to recover from osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer in his leg.
SANTIAGO HS: Was a four-year letterwinner for Head Coach Ty DeTrinidad and the Sharks at Santiago High School in Corona, Calif. • As a sophomore, posted a 4-2 record with a 1.98 ERA and was 3-2 with 29 strikeouts in 29.1 innings in his final full season with the Sharks as a junior in 2009 • Before his senior season began, he was diagnosed with cancer after being hit by a ball in the knee during the preseason • On March 5, 2010, he made his only appearance of his senior season, tossing one pitch (a strike) in the opening game of the 2010 season just days before his treatment was to begin • Spent nearly a year and a half in and out of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center recovering from surgery that removed a portion of his femur and replaced his knee with titanium in addition to months of chemotherapy.
