Riverside, Calif. -
Cal State Fullerton finished seventh in both the women's and men's races Saturday morning at the 2011 Big West Conference Cross Country Championships at UC Riverside.
UC Davis won the women's team title led by indivdiual runnerup Sarah Sumpter. Cal Poly won the men's race led by a second-place finish by Dan Gonia and a fourth by David Cardona.
Fullerton's top individual was John Carrell, 23rd in the men's 8K in 24:45.3. Grace Gonzales paced the Titan women in 21:33.7 over the 6K course, good for 30th place. Lauren McIntyre ran 39th and Lexie Bravo was 41st.
"It was a very disappointing day," said Fullerton Head Coach John Elders. "I know we are an improved team from a year ago but we didn't show it. We had the opportunity to move up a few spots In the standings and didn't take advantage.
"Most of the guys' times were significantly higher than in the UCR Invitational. And today the course was faster. Other teams stepped up... for whatever reason, we did not."
All competitors advance to the NCAA Regional meet in Palo Alto on Nov. 12.
