Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week (Sept. 22, 2015)

Fullerton’s top finisher in each of its six races throughout the season…recorded three top-10 finishes: fourth at the Mark Covert Classic in an 8k time of 25:18.93 (09/05), eighth at the Mustang Challenge with an 8k time of 25:28.55 (09/19) and 10th at the Highlander Invitational with a 6k time of 18:13.71 (10/17)…finished 65th (32:23.3) overall at the NCAA West Regional on the 10k course, an improvement from his 81st placement at Stanford in 2014…earned Big West Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors on Sept. 22 after his eighth-place finish at the Mustang Challenge, improving by 30 seconds from his 2014 time on the same 8K course.

CROSS COUUNTRY SOPHOMORE (2014): Competed in five events, placing in the overall top-20 on two occasions…ran a season-best 8K time of 25:24.2 at the Big West Championships in Riverside, Calif., on Nov. 1, finishing 37th overall and fourth among CSF runners...posted his best finish at the CSUSB Coyote Classic in San Bernardino, Calif., on Sept. 27, covering the 8K course in 26:09.0 to finish 15th overall and first among Fullerton participants…concluded the season at the NCAA West Regionals in fifth place among CSF student-athletes and 154nd overall, logging a time of 32:36.0 at the 10K event in Stanford, Calif., on Nov. 14.

TRACK & FIELD FRESHMAN (2014): Competed in eight events for the Titans during the 2014 outdoor track and field season... ran the 3000-meter run twice during the year, recording a personal-best 8:51.53 at the Big West Challenge on April 11 to finish 11th... competed in the 5000-meter four times and had a season-best 15:01.25 at the Steve Scott Invitational on May 4 to finish sixth... also ran the 10,000-meter run twice during the season and set a personal-best time and finish at the Cal/Nevada Championships on April 5 when he ran a 31:03.86 to finish second.

CROSS COUNTRY FRESHMAN (2013): Competed in six events during the season…placed in the overall top-30 in four events and Fullerton top-five on five occasions…ran a season-best 25:19 over the 8K course at the Inter-Region Jamboree on Oct. 4, finishing 69th overall...posted his best finish at the Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Sept. 21, covering the 8K course in 25:36.67 to finish ninth overall, and second among Fullerton participants…competed in one 6K event on Oct. 19, finishing in 27th place with a mark of 18:35.5 at the Highlander Invitational…at the Big West Championships, he placed first among the CSF runners and 23rd overall, logging a time of 26:43.4 at the 8K event in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on Nov. 2…concluded the season competing in a 10K event at the NCAA West Regionals, logging a time of 32:04 while finishing in 108th place overall and second among Fullerton participants.

Four-year varsity letter winner in both cross country and track for the Grizzlies under head coach George Payan... named the 2013 Orange Coast League Athlete of the Year... three-time Orange Coast League MVP for cross country... two-time Orange County Athlete of the Week and Godinez high school Athlete of the Month... set personal best times in 1600m (4:25), 3200m (9:15), 5k (15:19), and three-mile run (14:48).

Born in Monterey Park, Calif... parents are Silvia and Rafael... has one brother, Mario, and one sister, Maria... majoring in kinesiology... would like to work in the field of sports management after graduation... lists playing basketball, going to the movies, and going to the beach as some of his hobbies... favorites include: the hills (place to run), Lakers, Angels (athletics team), Kobe Bryant (athlete), Monsters University (movie), pizza, hamburgers, enchiladas and milkshakes (food).
