FULLERTON, Calif. – Coming off a seventh place finish at the Big West Championships during the 2012 campaign, the Titans now look ahead to a new season, it was announced by head coach John Elders Monday afternoon.
"I'm excited for this season because were competing in a lot of different meets, said Elders. The last four to five years we have been running in the same events, and this year will be a good change for our runners."
The Titans begin their season in Brea, Calif., at the Mark Covert Classic on Aug. 31. The Mark Covert Classic enters its 28th year and honors two-time national champion and Cal State Fullerton's first Division II All-American Mark Covert.
Fullerton will then travel to Fresno, Calif. to compete in the Fresno Invitational at Woodward Park (Sept. 14), which is currently the site of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Championships. "Woodward Park was a regular course for the NCAA West Regionals for many years, and it will be a challenging, but good event for us."
The Titans will only have the men participate at the UCLA Invitational (Sept. 20) and the women will compete at the Cal State Bakersfield Invitational (Sept. 28). Fullerton will close out the regular season with the Titan Invitational, which starts and ends at the Titan Track Complex.
CSF will compete in the Big West Championships on Nov. 2 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Cal Poly will host the Big West Championships for the first time since 2008 after the event was held at UC Riverside the past four seasons.
"The Cal Poly course is a more challenging hilly course in contrast to UCR's course which is flat and fast. This will create a different dynamic on race day as well as an adjustment in in training to prepare for a course with hills."
