Irvine and Pasadena, Calif.
Cal State Fullerton split its track and field squad this weekend between the Pasadena Games at Pasadena City College and the Spring Break Invitational at UC Irvine.
At Irvine, the Titans posted four personal bests and three seasonal bests. Turning in career-best marks were Brandon Cook in the men's 800 (1:53.53 for 8th place), Marco Zaragoza in the men's 1500 (4:00.74 for 20th place), Kevin Lachman in the men's pole vault by 5 1/2 inches (14 feet, 5 1/2 inches for 12th place) and Ian Sparks by 12 feet in the javelin (152 feet, 3 inches for 10th place).
Seasonal bests came from Casey Candelaria (2:18.98 for 18th place in the women's 800 and 4:41.36 in the 1500 for 12th place) and Jayson Perez in the men's 1500 (4:00.42 for 20th place). Kara Kalmar finished fourth in the women's pole vault at 11 feet, 8 inches.
In Pasadena, the women sprinters captured the Fullerton spotlight. The 4x100 relay team of Ashley Sims, Deena Pierce, Katie Wilson and Krizia Apelar ran second to UNLV in 46.49. Individually, Sims placed fifth, first among collegians, in the 100 meters in 11.95 seconds and Morgan Thompson was fourth in the 200 in 24.95.
The Titans compete again Saturday and Sunday at the Cal-Neva Invitational in Claremont.
