SEATTLE – Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field earned a 17th-place finish at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships on Saturday. The day was highlighted by freshman Iesha Hamm who broke her own school record in the high jump to earn a fourth-place finish in the event.
Hamm cleared 5-10.5 (1.79m), which tied with three other competitors for the best mark but she got fourth place due to misses. Earlier this year at the Colorado Invitational, won the high jump competition with a mark of 5-7.25 (1.71m) to tie Ty'Jalayah Robertson's previous school record set in 2015.
"Iesha really had a great day," head coach John Elders said. "She got fourth on misses but she easily had the best attempt at 1.82m of those four athletes. Today's performance should give her a lot of confidence going into outdoor season."
Trinity Ruelas won her heat and took 26th place overall in the 3K with a personal-best time of 9:49.73. Wendi Leos also ran in the event and clocked a time of 10:17.86.
"Trinity had a really strong race," Elders said. "The distance races in the MPSF are the best of the best so for her to win her heat and have a big PR is really exciting. It's not the school record but it's close and one of the best times in school history so I'm proud of her."
Laura Hamann earned ninth place in the triple jump with a mark of 39-1 (11.91m), just missing scoring for the Titans in the top eight. Onyx Gaston had a mark of 37-5.75 (11.42m) and Kyra Anderson went 34-7.75 (10.56m) as well.
USC swept the team competition as they won on both the men's and women's sides.
The outdoor track and field season begins for the Titans on March 3 with the RCC, UCR, Pepperdine Quad in Riverside.
