Cal State Fullerton Sports Media Manager Jason Spencer is in his 13th year coordinating media efforts for the university’s athletic programs, working primarily with women's soccer, men's basketball, and women's golf while also serving as the webmaster for the athletic department’s website, FullertonTitans.com.
While at Fullerton he has also worked closely with the women's basketball, softball, and women's tennis programs as well as women's gymnastics.
Prior to arriving in Orange County, Spencer spent 18 months as the Assistant Media Relations Director at the University of Portland in Oregon where he worked primarily with the women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s tennis teams.
During him time in the Pacific Northwest, Spencer also worked as a Communications Assistant with the now defunct Portland Fire of the WNBA during its inaugural season in the Rose City, responsible for writing the team’s game notes, managing the press room during games, and assisting with the franchise’s various public relations efforts.
A native of Fresno, Calif., Spencer graduated from the University of Southern California in 1999 with a bachelors degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in sociology.
There, he was as a student assistant in the USC sports information office for three-and-a-half years, contributing to the 1999 men’s and women’s tennis media guide as well as the 1999 women’s rowing media guide, and served as the public address announcer for Trojans baseball games at Dedeaux Field for four seasons.
He also spent two-and-a-half years on staff of the Daily Trojan student newspaper, including a semester as Sports Editor, covering such beats as women’s golf, men’s water polo, men’s tennis, baseball, and football.
Spencer, 36, currently resides in Riverside, Calif., with his wife, Katie, and their son, Nathan, who was born July 24, 2008. All three share the same birthday.
