As of the beginning of the 2016-17 academic school year, Dr. Mereidth Basil is serving as the Interim Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. It is estimated she will resume her role as an Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator in early 2017.
Basil re-joined the Titan family in August, 2011, as the associate director of athletics, director of academic services and has also added the title of Senior Woman Administrator to her responsibilities.
Dr. Basil maintains close oversight of all academic support programming and proactive academic monitoring of CSUF's student-athletes, to ensure they meet institutional and NCAA continuing eligibility requirements. Through close collaboration with the department of athletics and campus support offices, she works to develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the academic support and welfare needs of CSUF's student-athletes are being met.
From June, 2010, to August, 2011, she served as director of the Student-Athlete Academic Center at Florida International University (FIU), and the director of athletic academic services at CSUF from April, 2007, to May, 2010. Prior to these roles, she was the coordinator of academic support program for student-athletes at her alma mater, American University in Washington, D.C., also serving as the head diving coach from 2000-2002.
As a student-athlete, she had a decorated career, earning the Colonial Athletic Conference Diver of the Year Award for three consecutive years and setting team records for 1 meter (six dives), 3 meter (6 dives) and 3 meter (11 dives). She also earned a conference All-Academic Team award each of her three years and was twice named a Verizon/ESPN Academic All American and twice a CSCAA Academic All American.
Dr. Basil holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in psychology from American, where her research focused on biological and experiential factors contributing to individual differences in spatial ability.
