Greg Paules joined the Cal State Fullerton Athletic Department in spring of 2013 and serves as the Associate Athletic Director, Development. In his role with the Titans, Paules provides management, supervision and strategic direction for the athletics development unit with focus primarily on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of customers and prospects capable of making principal and major gifts as individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations. In his first year Paules turned around a development unit that had seen four straight years of declining giving, yielding nearly a $400,000 growth.
Serving on the senior athletic leadership team, Paules has been instrumental in helping to set measurable goals, create a vision, and change a department culture. Paules assisted in getting a campus-wide Student Success Initiative passed. The consultative process resulted in a student fee generating over $4 million annually for athletics. Serving as the primary liaison between Athletics, University Advancement, and Alumni Relations, Paules has been instrumental in building relationships across units on campus. He regularly represented the athletic department in presentations to the President’s Athletic Advisory Council, Academic Senate, and the Associated Student, Inc. Governing Board. Since joining the Titans, philanthropic productivity for athletics has more than doubled on an annual basis. He has worked with a volunteer committee to build a six-figure golf endowment. Paules also created the Titan Athletics Council and Letterwinner’s Club as ways to further connect with community members and student-athlete alumni. Paules serves as the sport supervisor for tennis.
Paules came to Cal State Fullerton from the University of California, Irvine Athletic Department where he served in a variety of external relation roles beginning as a marketing intern in 2005. From 2008-2011, he served as the Special Assistant to the Athletic Director with an emphasis in external relations. Serving as the department brand manager, Paules implemented new policies to increase brand consistency and strengthen the UC Irvine Athletics footprint in the community. He led a website redesign and created new marketing opportunities with a Corporate Holiday Program. Paules then added oversight of the Anteater Athletic Fund from 2011-2013. While spearheading all aspects of annual giving, both membership and giving significantly increased from year to year.
Before entering his career in intercollegiate athletics, Paules spent time working at a boutique wealth management firm in Newport Beach, Calif. and as a test center administrator for graduate and advanced degree programs. A native of Pasadena, Calif., Paules graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology and a minor in education from the UC Irvine and earned a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the Paul Merage School of Business in 2009. At the Merage School of Business, Paules served as President of the Sports and Entertainment Business Club and was the youngest MBA graduate in the school’s history.
